I asked for time, they gave me time

For the past six months I have been working my arse off for my software project. I had 2 vacation leaves cancelled because the schedule was too tight. Right now, I think I had it. The time for the project was just too short. It was obvious that they had under estimated the complexity of the project.

I did a 1:1 with my manager last week. It was an annual meeting to see what I had accomplished and what I have to do next year. I could not help myself but be honest with my feedback. My manager admits his fault. To compensate for that, he asked me for what I want. I asked for time.

This morning, a package arrived at home. It was delivered in a big box, it came from our company president. I opened the box and it turned out that the president gave me what I asked for. Time. 12 hours actually. – a michael kors chronograph watch. I was shocked and called the CEO immediately. He said that it was a bonus, for stealing my time. I was terribly flattered that I even forgot to thank him. I called back after 30 minutes after realizing I forgot to thank him for the watch.

Our president does a lot of weird things. Once my colleague was depressed with her husband. Our CEO had flowers delivered to her desk. Anyway, I got what I asked for. It’s just that it was not exactly what I thought of. But hey, it’s a great watch. Something I can brag about next summer, hopefully by then the project will already come to an end.
